Emmys 2018 - the Proposal That Stole the Show

Jan Svendsen‘s Stage-Worthy Stunner

In case you missed the moment everyone is talking about today, Glenn Weiss proposed to his now-fiancée, Jan Svendsen, on stage while accepting his award for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. And you can recreate the magic in the same sparkly silver Sachin & Babi dress she got engaged in, which is perfect for a super-formal event where you want to look extra-special. On Monday night, director Glenn Weiss delivered the most shocking moment of the Emmys by proposing to his girlfriend Jan Svendsenduring his acceptance speech. Backstage, within an hour of becoming engaged, Weiss explained his decision to propose in front of millions.

“Literally the only person who had a heads up was my dad,” said Weiss, noting that he had asked his father for his late mother’s wedding ring. Weiss, who ended up winning an Emmy for directing the 2018 Academy Awards, insisted that he had not notified the show’s production about his plan to propose—in part because this year’s Emmy director, Hamish Hamilton—whom Weiss shouted out during his speech—was nominated against him. “It didn’t feel right with Hamish nominated against me,” explained Weiss. “I thought about if I were to call anyone on the production . . . but I respect him too much to step in and say, ‘If I win . . . ’” (By Vanity Fair)
